Massachusetts Program Aims to Improve Material Recovery
Efforts are underway in Massachusetts to improve recycling. The MassDEP Sustainable Materials Recovery Program (SMRP) awards grant money to qualifying communities in the Bay State.
Our daughter brand, Factory Direct Promos recently explained what this program entails, how it will impact communities, and how they can help.
Coming Together for a Worthwhile Cause
The SMRP program is a great example of politicians from both sides of the aisle coming together to do some good.
We all share the same planet, so it only makes sense that efforts to reduce trash and litter and improve the planet, starting at the community level, would be supported by all sides.
Building Upon Success
What’s so interesting about the SMRP initiative, is that it is designed to improve existing programs.
Communities that have established recycling programs and have made strides are potential candidates to receive funds.
Any funds awarded as part of the SMRP must be used to expand and improve those existing recycling programs.
This is a great opportunity for communities to further develop their sustainability efforts. Reinvesting in existing programs is also smart and likely to really make a difference, because communities that have shown an interest and have made an effort are the ones that will receive funds and have the opportunity to take things further.
How Factory Direct Promos Can Help
Recycling programs are large and can be very involved, but in order for these programs to be successful, residents must participate.
Sustainable materials can only be reclaimed and remanufactured if they are collected. Recycling is easier said than done for many people, namely tenants in apartments and other types of multi-family dwellings.
Or at least that was the case, until Factory Direct Promos rolled out their reusable recycling bags.
These bags take the place of the bins commonly used in curbside recycling programs found in areas with single-family homes. Residents can use their reusable recycling bags to collect items for recycling and carry them to a collection point.
Education Aspect
Reusable recycling bags are very convenient just as a vessel to hold and transport recyclables, but they can also spread information.
The ability to customize the bag with custom artwork gives municipalities or sanitation or property management companies the ability to help educate tenants about recycling.
It’s possible to include a list of items that can (or cannot) be recycled or direct tenants to a website or social media accounts where they can learn more and ask questions.
When people understand how to recycle it becomes easy, and when it’s easy participation increases.
Going Green
It is exciting to see the changes that will come about as a result of the SMRP program in Massachusetts.
We are also proud of the work Factory Direct Promos has done to help improve recycling efforts throughout the United States.
Their reusable recycling bags completely align with the work the SMRP program aims to accomplish.
