Over the Ice Bucket Challenge? I’m Not and Here’s Why
Unless you have been living under a rock, you most certainly have heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. It has been an incredibly effective campaign to increase awareness about ALS and increase donations to ALSA.org. In recent days, there has been some chatter about how people are “over it”, but the fact is that for the people that are living with ALS and their families, it is not over.
The Ice Bucket Challenge works because it is silly, and easy, and important and something we can all be a part of – you can check out my video below. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge works because it raises awareness about ALS but it also raises the bar when it comes to giving by encouraging people who may not have been aware of ALS to make donations.
It just feels good and it makes us a part of something bigger than ourselves that matters. It is a sense of community gone viral that people are grasping onto around the world.
Around the Globe, There Is Support
Perhaps most importantly, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge works because it offers hope around the globe to those impacted by ALS that they are being heard, that their struggles are not in vain, and that they will not be forgotten.
I was happy to accept the challenge ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and by the laughter in the background, you can tell that the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is not only bringing people from across the world together, it is bringing co-workers, neighbors and families a bit closer together too.
Just a quick note. I accepted the ice bucket challenge in honor of a family friend, Mary Beck, who was taken from us with ALS.
