The Top Ten Green Schools In The United States…Did Your Favorite School Make the Cut?
Going green is a way of life and the eco-revolution is in full swing. Countless colleges and universities have realized this, and brought the green way of life to their own campuses but who is in the lead in the United States? Did your favorite school make the cut?
How Schools Are Going Green
Campuses around the country have made great strides in this eco-revolution by making going green a grassroots effort. By involving the students in the green solution, colleges have been far more successful in their overall efforts. Student participation allows for students to develop their own green ideals and offers a sense of ownership when it comes to environmental issues.
For instance, College of Atlantic has been carbon neutral since 2007 and could not have achieved this goal if not for the participation of the student body.
The Power in Green
Several of the top ranking green schools have developed methods of powering their school.
For example, at the University of New Hampshire, the EcoLine program generates electricity from landfill gas. Similarly, electricity at Middlebury College us derived from their own Biomass plant. Oberlin College uses a notably large solar array and employs geothermic heating.
Set a standard with Self Supporting Practices
When a university supplies their own campus with the products or services that it needs rather than outsourcing items, the university is self-supporting and reducing any extra cost or waste that would be caused with importing. Additionally, self-supporting practices can include supplying their own food with their own farms. By following self-supporting practices, universities are in control of their own green future.
Without further ado, here is the The Factory Direct Promos list of the top 10 green universities in the United States (in no particular order). Each school is linked to their own green initiatives, so click to find out how they made the cut.
